Introducing Grant Crawford

Originally from East Kilbride but now residing in Penicuik, Grant started playing the accordion when he was 10 years old although he has never had any formal instruction on the instrument.

He discovered accordion and fiddle clubs in his late teens and this led to him meeting Norman Williams who introduced him to the art of playing for Scottish Country Dancing. Over the following years Grant got involved with various branches and clubs throughout Glasgow and the surrounding areas playing for classes and dances.

His playing has taken dances all over Europe and as far afield as Rio De Janeiro. Most recently he was invited to take his band to play at the 50th Anniversary of the RSCDS Berlin Branch.

Grant has composed many tunes and many of which have been printed in various publications as well as a volume of over a hundred in his own book. Some of these have been adopted as originals for new dances and is immensely proud of hearing his tunes broadcast and recorded by the likes of bandleaders such as Colin Dewar, Ian Muir Sandy Nixon, Gordon Shand and Liam Stewart.
